Micro FTIR
Micro-FTIR is used to find material characterization by providing the molecular structure of organic and some inorganic components. Besides its usefulness in identifying organics, micro FTIR can analyze polymers, coatings, fibers, rubbers, cement, geological samples, pharmaceutical samples, and failure analysis.
Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) is used to identify unknown organic materials. FT-IR measures the absorption or reflectance of infrared radiation at different wavelengths and an infrared spectrum is produced. MicroFTIR analysis, is used to identify particles as small as 10 microns.
A material's composition can be identified using either transmission, reflection, or ATR modes.

Material Identification
Below is an image of a reinforced hose magnified with a light microscope. micro FTIR analysis of both materials results in the spectra shown to the right. The spectra shows the functional groups for material identification.
Chemical Analysis
The Fibre's material is polyethylene terephthalate.
The hose material is polybutyl.
